🔗 SOAS blog: "Remote Linguistic Elicitation" (by Richard Griscom)

https://blogs.soas.ac.uk/elar/2020/06/25/remote-linguistic-elicitation-methods/
In which @rgriscom writes about conducting elicitation with speakers at a distance.
(Lots of nice photos from our training workshop in Haydom as well )

I think the biggest takeaway here is that remote linguistic elicitation (or any type of linguistics, for that matter) is not going to be possible unless the proper, in-person, relationships have been developed first.
This feeds into next year’s ICLDC theme “Recognizing Relationships” quite well, and is something I’ve been thinking about more and more in my fieldwork practice.
…of course, there is also a technology side - one I think that Richard does a good job in making explicit in his blog post.
