An interesting visualization of language acquisition

I thought this was an interesting post from reddit:

Obviously, we can see the number of words per page falls over time, but it’s interesting to see someone’s actual timeframe and a specific scale. It reminds me of fieldwork, and it would be quite interesting to see just how much longer it takes to “acquire” vocabulary — certainly it would take orders of magnitude more, since you can’t just “look up” — or even identify — a given word!

Furthermore, in order to carry out such a study, one would have to have digitized fieldwork from the beginning, or at least, a digitized version of handwritten fieldwork that was “faithful” to
