This interview continues the interesting theme of what it means to be an insider linguist, someone who is part of the the community whose language is the topic of study.
Michinori and Marti have such an interesting discussion on this topic, particularly becuase they both work on Ryukyuan languages, but have different relationships with the communities they work with. So much to think about!
